To celebrate its Platinum (70th) jubilee this year, the world’s longest-running play, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap, is coming to Australia. This thrilling classic, theatrical ‘whodunnit’ is known for defining the genre of murder mystery written by one of the bestselling novelists of all time. Originally written as an 80th birthday present for Queen Mary, it was a short story titled Three Blind Mice and played on the BBC. It was then adapted for stage and opened in London in 1952. It is now the longest ever continuously staged show in the world.

Agatha Christie’s skilful writing manages to create wonderous and varied characters including newlyweds, a spinster with a curious background, an architect and army major just to name a few. She gives many story telling elements which keep the audience wondering and guessing…right till the end!

The Mousetrap storyline involves a local woman who is murdered and the guests and staff at Monkswell Manor find themselves stranded during a snowstorm. It soon becomes clear that the killer is among them, and they grow increasingly suspicious of one another. When a second murder takes place, tensions and fears escalate. This record-breaking murder mystery features a brilliant surprise finish from the foremost mystery writer of all time.
